You never know what kind of cool stuff you’ll find at the Rainbow Blossom Green Gift Fair. Last year I got a super cool winter themed card/print from Mad Pixel that found its way to my friend M out in Los Angeles. It was very well received. So if you’ve got some folks on your holiday list for whom you have no idea what to buy you should definitely check out the Green Gift Fair this weekend.

Fair goers can browse a diverse mix of gift items and have the opportunity to meet some of the people behind the products. Selections include eco-friendly products from Amazing Green Planet, fair-trade crafts from Just Creations, handmade jewelry, pottery, bath salts, Tibetan crafts from the Drepung Gomang Monastery, and recycled candles from the Old Louisville Candle Maker who will be holding candle raffles throughout the event as well. Customers who bring in a food or personal hygiene donation for Dare to Care will receive two free chances toward the raffles.

Customers can enjoy a complimentary chair massage courtesy of Sustainable Health Choices, sample hot coffee from Red Hot Roasters, or nibble desserts from Stellar Sweets, dark chocolate marzipan fruitcake from Boca Negra, and gluten-free treats from Deliciously Free. Boone Creek Creamery will sample locally made cheese as well. The non-profit Olmsted Parks Conservancy will provide earth-friendly, recycled gift wrapping services for an optional donation. All proceeds go to the OPC.

Rainbow Blossom is offering a selection of 6 different themed gift baskets this year’s holiday season. They will be available to pre-order at the Fair as well. The gift baskets range in price from $24.99 – $59.99. There is a $10.00 non-refundable deposit per basket due at time of order. A 5% discount is available with the purchase of 3 or more baskets and a 10% discount with the purchase of 6 or more baskets.

I also took her to Louisville Stoneware for the factory tour which is something I had actually never done before.

I love Louisville Stoneware stuff anyway (my Louisville Stoneware pie plate is the one I most often reach for) so it was really cool to see how the process goes from a pile of dirt (I know, it’s technically clay) to a beautiful, functional object.

My two favorite parts of the tour were seeing the handles being attached to mugs and watching two of the artists hand painting pieces (see the photo above). Such skill and talent all of these women had! The woman attaching the mug handles (I apologize that I didn’t catch any names) is so efficient and accurate. It’s just a cool process to watch.

It’s a short tour but definitely worth the $7 ticket price I think. And if you, unlike me, have some actual artistic talent you can also paint your own pottery.

The tour happens at 10:30AM and 1:30PM on weekdays.

Yes another new business is coming to East Market Street. This one is a new retail outlet called Peace of the Earth. It’s across the street from Please & Thank You. You won’t be able to miss it because the exterior door frame is a seriously-attention-getting shade of green.

The boutique will carry a new and expanded line of Peace of the Earth products along with any eco-friendly bathroom accessories, organic and bamboo towels, robes, non-toxic children’s bath toys and much more!

I was not familiar with Peace of the Earth before so I don’t really know what their product line is like but I think it’s soaps and skin care products. In any case you can find out all about their product line this Saturday October 15 at their grand opening. They say there will be refreshments. If not you can also walk over to Please and Thank You for a ridiculously good Spanish or Ganache Latte.
