Free February is Free at Yew Dell Gardens

With this crazy warm weather we’re having you could certainly do a lot worse than spending an afternoon roaming around Yew Dell Gardens. It’s a lovely, lovely place and for the month of February you can get in to see for yourself for free.

February is the month of love and we love gardens! We decided to make admission FREE to all for the month of February so visitors could come and love our gardens. Winter gardens are open for viewing, as are our hiking trails and gorgeous arboretum. With this mild weather you may be surprised what you see in bud and even in bloom.

NuLu Festival Coming September 24 2011

You already know how much good stuff is happening on the regular down on East Market and now it’s time for the annual festival celebrating all that good stuff.

The East Market District is pleased to announce its 3nd annual NuLu Festival, featuring The Pass, Broken Spurs, Peter Searcy and LeeAnn Yost and Kyle James Hauser. The free, family friendly and open-to-the-public block party will take place on Saturday, September 2011 from 2 p.m. – 11 p.m. in the 700 block of East Market Street.

The festival, which features “all things local,” will offer live music, a kids’ corner, local food and retail vendors, and a generous selection of micro-brews from The Louisville Beer Store. The event will also feature sweets from Cake Flour and Muths, pizza at Garage Bar, Busta Grill gourmet hot dogs, Bodega paninis, oysters from RYE, and treats from Please & Thank You.

Da Vinci Dogs: Free Hot Dogs at Frazier Museum

OK this drawing the Frazier folks sent me with the info about this event amuses me way, way more than it probably should. Then again I think how can you not laugh at a vitruvian dog?

Some may say there’s no such thing as a free lunch, but the Frazier History Museum disagrees. To celebrate its latest temporary exhibit, “Da Vinci – The Genius,” the community is invited to stop by the Frazier at 829 West Main Street for “Da Vinci Dogs,” free hot dogs on Friday, August 5 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. RAIN OR SHINE.

A hot dog cart will be located in front of the Frazier to dish out delicious dogs, complete with condiments of your choice. Veggie dogs will also be available. After all, Leonardo da Vinci was a vegetarian! Historic interpreters in Italian Renaissance attire will also be on-hand to share in the fun.

The Frazier is also offering a summer admission special. Up to four children 14 and under are free with each purchase of one adult admission.

OK Zombie Live EP Free Download

Did you know there is a Louisville based band called OK Zombie? How could you keep this information from me? Hmmph. I’m going to forgive you for keeping me in the dark, this time.

OK Zombie recorded a live EP at the Hard Rock Cafe and they’re giving it away as a free download on their website.

OK Zombie was conceived by Louisville, KY native singer/songwriter, Nick Peay. A fan of zombie movies, he started recording instrumental songs inspired by said movie genre as one of many side projects. After positive feedback from listeners, Peay decided to flesh out (no pun intended) newer songs with lyrics, and his latest release “Do The Zombie” was born.

As to why the free download Nick Peay says “We’re giving it away free to raise people’s awareness about zombies, since the CDC has released a report about how to prepare for zombies.” Good on you Nick for looking out for the community.

Free Concert: Soprano and Piano at Bellarmine October 1, 2010

Want a musical experience that’s a little different than a show at say Zanzabar or Headliners? Then you should consider heading over to Bellarmine tomorrow night for a free recital featuring soprano Angelique Clay and pianist Cliff Jackson.

They will be performing “works of Ludwig van Beethoven, Richard Strauss, Claude Debussy, Joaquín Turina, Hall Johnson, Margaret Bonds and Jacqueline B. Hairston.”

Free Movie Night in Tyler Park: Raiders of the Lost Ark September 18, 2010

Olmsted Parks Conservancy is having Free Movie Night in Tyler Park this Saturday September 18. They’re showing Raiders of the Lost Ark. They encourage you to get there around 7:30PM to chat with neighbors and the film will start at dark.

Bring lawn chairs, blankets and a picnic if you like. I know I would like a picnic seeing how my 25 hour fast will just be ending at sunset. So if you don’t pack a really delicious picnic to take with you to the movies I’m going to take it as a personal affront.

I didn’t buy tickets to this show because I thought “it’s going to be miserably hot, I don’t want to sit outdoors for a concert.” That feeling still holds but it’s tempered with regret because I bet that’s going to be an excellent show. If you go tell me how it is ok?

I am not exactly in the Will Ferrell movie demographic and truthfully I haven’t liked most of the vehicles that have fueled Mr. Ferrell’s career. That being said I find Anchorman-The Legend of Ron Burgandy strangely appealing.

I will smash your face into a car windshield, and then take your mother, Dorothy Mantooth, out for a nice seafood dinner and never call her again.

I was almost 6 years old when E.T. came out so I was in the prime demographic yet I don’t think my parents took me to see it. Bad parents, bad! Kidding, mostly. That’s just my explanation for why I don’t think I’ve ever seen this movie all the way through. If you want to see it all you can do it tonight for free at Iroquois Amphitheater because Metro Parks loves you.
