I launched a couple new sites yesterday that I’d like to tell you about. They’re both near and dear to my heart so I hope you dig them.
Eat In Louisville
Eat In Louisville started out as an idea I had for promoting Menu and Hours1 and the restaurants featured in the app. The idea was to encourage people to tag Instagram photos from Louisville restaurants with #mhlou. The photos with the tag would be compiled in one place and show off some wonderful Louisville food and drink. After thinking about this for a while though I decided that the concept (showing off Louisville restaurant food and drink) would make a pretty cool site for visitors to Louisville. It would give them an idea of the kind of great restaurants we have here and wouldn’t be limited to any particular genre, price point or food type.
My sincere hope is that Louisville locals will enjoy looking at the food pr0n (and contributing to it by using the #mhlou tag on appropriate Instagram photos) and people planning to visit or relocate to Louisville will get really excited about our city’s food scene.
Six weeks or so ago, as we started seeing the light at the end of the tunnel on development work for Menu and Hours, I decided that I wanted to have some sort of symbol on the app’s credit page certifying it “Made in Louisville” or something similar. The app was dreamed up here, coded here and designed here and I’m really proud of that. Again, realizing that having something just for Menu and Hours was too small I chatted with some smart people about it on Twitter and realized that it would be really cool if there was a strong, beautiful symbol for Louisville makers and creators to use on their projects to show off their hometown pride.
So I asked the insanely talented Bryan Patrick Todd (he of Highlands mural fame) to create the Louisville Made symbol. I’ve got to tell you that I think he completely knocked it out of the park with the symbol. I couldn’t love it more. I hope to see lots and lots of sites, projects and products featuring the Louisville Made symbol. Over on the Louisville Made site I’m going to compile a list of everything that I know to be using the symbol. Hopefully it will grow to be a massive list of Louisville awesomeness.
1. Menu and Hours is getting submitted to Apple,
this sigh, next week. I know it’s taken longer than I initially planned for and believe me that’s as frustrating to me as it is to you. But! Submitting to Apple this next week! So exciting! ↩
