Film, UofL

As far as I can tell this screening of the documentary “Out of Cordoba” at UofL tomorrow evening is free and open to the public. The film explores two fascinating figures and a unique period of religious co-existence. The filmmaker will be on hand for a discussion following the film.

OUT OF CORDOBA is a documentary film, directed by Jacob Bender, about the legacy of the Spanish city of Cordoba and its meaning for our times. The film explores the dramatic biographies of Averroes (Ibn Rushd) the Muslim and Rabbi Moses Maimonides the Jew, the two leading personalities of medieval Islamic Spain, and the heritage of convivencia (religious coexistence) of that amazingly creative epoch. Filmed in the USA, Spain, Morocco, France, Italy, Egypt, Israel and Palestine, and ten years in the making, the film also explores contemporary relations between Muslims, Jews, and Christians, the revolts for human rights in the Middle East, and the struggle against religious extremism and xenophobia.
