As part of the IdeaFestival hullabaloo (ha, Louisville festivals pun!) there is an event happening this Thursday that should be of great interest to foodies. Called Taste of Innovation it’s “two hours of unlimited food and spirit specials offered by the region’s most creative chefs, restaurants, brewers, distillers and mixlologists.”
Sounds pretty cool right? It’s not cheap, tickets are $30 per person, but if you can swing the tickets I definitely think you’ll enjoy yourself.
The Taste of Innovation is the food and social happening of IdeaFestival. Two hours of unlimited food and spirit specials offered by the region’s most creative chefs, restaurants, brewers, distillers and mixlologists — all for only $30. The event also includes cooking and mixology demonstrations featuring local chefs along with entertainment and silent auction deals on dining, products and travel packages. As a nod to continuing innovation — TOI will be a Zero Waste Taste: All implements, food and drinkware will be biodegradable and composted, so those who come will be cool and green. The event will be held this year on September 22, 2011, 5:30 – 7:30pm at Churchill Downs Millionaires Row 4.
My friends at Heaven Hill are participating in this event and they’re going to have some cool stuff going on for those of us who enjoy a good cocktail from time to time:
- Local bartender Jared Schubert is going to feature the Marie Antoinette with PAMA Liqueur for an indulgent take on a proper cocktail.
- They’ll be serving up the Lunazul Paloma is a favorite tequila cocktail consumed in a gum drop.
- And they’ll be serving a traditional Evan Williams Mint Julep in snowcone form.

On our honeymoon my husband and I decided to have dinner on the beach at sunset. Our resort was situated on the tip of the Baja Sir in Cabo San Lucas. It was a 5 star resort and to say the least, us newlyweds were WAY out of our league. We thought the dinner price was listed for 2, but we were oh so wrong! Our courses consisted of seviche, bean soup, a filet and a dessert and we had a bottle of champagne and our own personal beach server. So when the bill came it was accompanied by a flashlight so we could read the bill in the dark…only a mere $500! I guess you only live once and it was quite delicious, but we were pretty shocked!

My cheapest meal is a summertime staple-fresh tomatoes from the garden layered with basil and Capriole cheese, dressed lightly with good olive oil. The only splurge is the cheese and oil, but the quality is worth it.

In Dover England I had Fish & Chips served in news papers with malt vinegar and the cost was equal to about $2.75! It was enought for two people and the fish was buttery and the chips were crisp. I hope to go back there someday to enjoy the same meal.
