Disclosure: I played a very, very, very small role as a volunteer advisor on a few elements of this project.
I’m really excited to tell you about a new locally produced ground breaking nine-part documentary called “Why Quilts Matter”. If you just think of quilts as the things that keep you warm in winter you’re in for a very pleasant surprise. The world of quilts is a vast one that incorporates elements of art, politics, feminism, finance and history. It’s well worth your time to check out. Here’s a little promo that explains a bit more:
The series takes a fresh look at quilts and spreads the word about their unique position at the center of a startlingly broad grid of topics, ranging from women’s studies to the contemporary art market.
The series begins airing on KET on September 5 but you can get an early look at the series on Sunday August 21 at the Speed Museum. There will a screening of the second hour of the series called “Quilts Bring History Alive”.
