Original Makers Club

Community Involvement

A got a note a while back about a new publication in town called the “Original Makers Club.” I was a wee bit confused about what exactly it is but thanks to the “manifesto” the creator sent me I have my head wrapped around it a little more.

The Original Makers Club is a new lifestyle and design-conscious book and site highlighting local Louisville businesses, events and dining experiences.

Unlike other city guides and online magazines, The Original Makers Club will feature hand picked businesses by your curated team of culture-seekers who will weed out the mundane and bring you the very best, the most unique, and the most inspiring that the city has to offer, with an eye to both the modern and the traditional, the high-end and the humble.

The first print edition of the Original Makers Club is out now and is being distributed, for free, in several locations downton, including Butchertown/East Market retail shops. They will also be found in every room in 21c for the next year.

My friend and yours John Wurth, of Hatch Creative, was involved with the design of the project so I’m sure it looks insanely cool.

The website for the project is filled with lots of ready to be Tumblr-ed photographic pr0n (see the photos from the Please & Thank You entry) and wonderful stories about people who are building cool things and businesses in our community. For example check out the entry on Limbwalker Tree and the one on Magnolia Photo Booth.

So basically both the print version and the web version are filled with very beautiful stuff and really interesting stories about unique businesses and creative people in our midst. Definitely worth a little bit of your time to check out.
