I’m not quite sure I understand what’s going on with this project that’s happening this Saturday January 29, 2011 from 10AM-4PM but I think I do and I think it’s cool.
It’s like a sponsored bike ride except you raise money by the pound rather than by the mile! Move Andy and Moira’s goods about 1.4 miles from Shelby Park to Schnitzleberg. You get people to sponsor you a certain amount, say 5 cents per pound. Moira and Andy MATCH what you raise up to $400, what we’d probably have to pay regular movers. All money goes towards supporting Bicycling for Louisville.
From Andy: “You show up with a bike and help us move. You don’t need a trailer. There will be some there to use, plus you can use your bike if you have a rack/basket. We will also need people to load and unload at each end. Moira and I pay bicycling for Louisville $400, which is probably what we’d have to pay some semi-regular movers. You get to take part in a totally human powered move of a complete household, including large/heavy items like couches, fling cabs, bookcases, bass amp, and a large mystery item that it takes four people to lift!”
Got that? It’s kind of like a fundraising walk where you get people to sponsor you X amount per mile. I think the objective is to have fun and show what’s possible when you’re committed to bike transportation in all areas of your life.
