Dude, I love all the cool stuff LVL1 is doing. The latest bit of awesome? A kickass workshop wherein you’ll build a “USB charger that powers devices using AA batteries housed in an Altoids tin.” Make this as a gift for the geek in your life and you’ll have earned so many points you won’t know what to do with them all.
For the DIY-gift lovin’ crowd, LVL1 is offering a cool workshop to build a USB charger that powers devices using AA batteries housed in an Altoids tin. It’s called the Mintiboost: minti (because of the Altoids tin) + boost (because it’s perfect for when your battery runs low on the device and you need a boost). It can even use rechargeable batteries, so it’s green too.
We have lots of these kits on hand, and lots of volunteers to help the trepidatious. The kit does require a little soldering, but it’s designed for beginners and people who don’t know how to solder at all. Makes a great holiday gift (only $35), and it’s also perfect for parents to bring their kids and let them make one themselves. Our general guideline is that soldering is suitable for kids of all ages (5 yrs and up).
We have ample tools for making the kits at LVL1, and we’re even offering two sessions so that plenty of people can participate. The first session is on Monday 12/6 from 7-9pm and the second session is on Saturday 12/18 1-3 pm.
How cool would it be to take your kid to this workshop and let her make this awesome holiday gift for the favorite geek in her life? Rock star parents take their kids to events like this.
