I am not well versed enough in either architecture, historic preservation or modern commercial development to have much of an educated opinion on the whole Iron Quarter debacle that is currently on so many minds. I know smarter minds than mind though have given it a great deal of thought and are very concerned about the potential demolition of the Whiskey Row/Iron Quarter buildings.
To help fight that potential demolition Louisville photographer Billy Grubbs is selling prints of a beautiful photograph he made of the buildings in question and he’s donating profits to a local preservation group. If you are of the mind that these buildings need to be saved this fundraiser is a double win for you because you get to help save the buildings and get beautiful art.

The owner has already began applying for permits to demolish the buildings, but there is still time to stop him. If the community can declare these buildings Louisville landmarks, then we can help save the buildings. In order to complete the landmarking process, 200 signatures and $500 must be provided for each building. There are a total of 6 endangered buildings, so a total of $3000 must be raised. In order to help fund this project, I am selling prints of the Whiskey Row buildings. If you would like to help out and purchase the photo below, please fill out the order form at the bottom of the page. All print prices include mounting, lamination, and shipping.

The record will reflect that Mr. Todd Blue, and his family, have been directly responsible for innumerable good things in Louisville (especially the nearby vicinity). However, is the destruction of Whiskey Row worth the price of immediate progress? Or, should plans be halted in favor for the fight to retain and rehab Whiskey Row? All options will be costly. Destruction will leave us black and blue, without historical memory. Preservation will be worth it.
