A new hometown hero mural went up at the J. Graham Brown school over the weekend. It’s of Louisville native and “prima ballerina” Wendy Whelan. I don’t know what exactly a prima ballerina is but I’m assuming it’s pretty impressive. That’s a safe assumption since the New York Times referred to her as “the greatest American ballerina of her time.”
Whelan grew up in Louisville and went to Brown before moving to NY when she was 15 to dedicate her life to ballet career. Clearly that worked out well for her since she’s “performed on every famous stage in the U.S. and Europe.”
Anyway, I wanted to tell you about this because this is one of those Hometown Hero murals that I would drive past and go “who is that and what’s the story?” Now I don’t have to do that and neither do you since we’ve got the scoop.
