Hopefully Broken Sidewalk will forgive me for digging into their normal content area a bit but I couldn’t help myself. When I saw that construction was being done in the old Chinese restaurant location near the now defunct Club Grotto I had stroll down Bardstown to see what the building permit said. I was oh so excited that it was going to be a good new restaurant coming to the neighborhood. Alas what it said was this:
Change of use from a restaurant to a retail store (bucket flower shop).
I’m not really sure what a bucket flower shop is and how it’s different from a normal flower shop but I’ll be glad to see some retail action in that space. It’s been empty for a long time and if it’s not going to be a restaurant a new flower shop isn’t such a bad thing to have in the neighborhood.

Thanks for the info, Michelle. I’m a little disappointed in this news though. I live near the Loop and was hoping another Chinese restaurant would take that slot (*sniff*). Golden Dragon was my favorite place for takeout!

A bucket flower shop is a shop where they use large buckets to display and sell fresh flowers. They aren’t wrapped in plastic (like you see at the grocery store), and many of them are grown locally (when in season) or imported for peak of bloom, beauty, etc. Very European and one I am looking forward to as today I wanted to surprise the better half with flowers, but where to go on a Sunday that was close? Valu-Market – nope…Kroger – nope…Whole Foods – too far to walk…
Looking forward to this new retailer in the Loop!

This is good news! Can’t wait to tell my wife, who has been hoping for a good bucket florist since moving back to the Ville from Rochester NY, where there was a truly excellent florist where you could pick your own from a range of cut flowers and design your own bouquets.
