Shiloh Walker has been writing since she was a kid. She fell in love with vampires with the book Bunnicula and has worked her way up to the more…ah…serious vampire stories. She loves reading and writing anything paranormal, anything fantasy, and nearly every kind of romance. Once upon a time she worked as a nurse, but now she writes full time and lives with her family in the Midwest.
Back when I first tried to think of something to blog about for this, I had a slew of ideas. I mean, a lot.
There’s plenty love about this area… I mean, it’s home.
But that’s also a problem. I love the area-so how do I pick one thing?
While I’m not a Derby lover and I hate how I can’t always find decent shows to watch because they sometimes get cancelled for Derby coverage, I love Thunder, I love the Chow Wagon and I love looking at the weird hats that pop up come Derby.
I’m not into clubbing so I can’t really list a big nightlife hotspot, although I can tell you, I’m a big people watcher and I can also tell you I’m highly amused to sit in my comfy jeans and sweater with my husband, sipping a drink inside TGI Fridays down at 4th Street Live in the dead of January and watching some of the ladies teetering around on their ice pick heels, wearing skirts that barely cover their tush, rubbing their arms because they couldn’t wear a jacket because then nobody could see that oh-so-cute dress..except right now, when they are freezing, they don’t really look oh-so-cute. They just look cold.
I could talk about hitting Bardstown Road and how much fun it is just to wander around there—you’ve got the people who have that innate cool vibe going—like they exude it from their pores, and then you’ve got the people who try to be like that, and then you’ve all the people who are probably a lot like me and just like hanging around watching people.
Hey, what can I say? I’m a writer. I watch people… you could even say I’m paid to watch people. It’s one of the things I love about Louisville—there’s never a shortage of different people to watch.
But even aside from people watching, there’s just so much I love about this place.
I love the drive from Louisville to Cincinnati—such a pretty, scenic drive, and it’s a good thing since I have to make it three, four, five…six, seven times a year. I love the bookstores, and that’s a very good thing since those bookstores are every bit as crucial to my line of work as people watching. I really love the bookstores, although man, I do miss Hawley Cooke.
I love the houses of Old Louisville, I love standing in the crush of bodies with my kids for Light Up Louisville, and I love, every once in a while, taking one of the carriage rides around downtown on a cold, cold winter night, bundled up in blankets.
I love the Kentucky State Fair, and the Gaslight Festival, and one of these years, I swear, I’m going to make it to the St. James Art Show. I love the bumper stickers that I see, the ones that read: “KEEP LOUISVILLE WEIRD.” I love wandering around Oxmoor Mall (…Waldenbooks…Lush….drool…happiness) and I love sneaking out for a night at 4th Street Live with my husband, or hitting a movie at Stoneybrook.
I love taking my kids to Science Center, to Halloween events at the Louisville Zoo and I love the exhibits at the Frazier Historical Arms Museum.
I know I’m supposed to pick one thing about Louisville that I love, and I guess if I had to do it, it would be this… the one thing I love about Louisville is this… it’s home.
