Domestic Violence Benefit at Prime Lounge Friday January 15, 2010

This doesn’t need any editorializing from me.

The beginning of 2010 was marked with the brutal death of Kelly Doyle – a mother, a daughter, a sister, a friend… a victim of domestic violence. Please join friends and fellow supporters to raise awareness and funding for the Center for Women and Families and for Kelly’s child.

How to Help:
- Show up, get involved
- Bring charitable donations for The Center including: old cell phones, new blankets or sheets
- Monetary donations

For each $1 donated to help support Kelly’s son, you will be entered in a raffle for prizes TBA at the event.

One in three women will be the victim of domestic violence; an estimated 1.3 million women are victims of physical assault by an intimate partner each year; more than a third of all women who sought care in hospital emergency rooms for violence-related injuries were injured by a current or former spouse, boyfriend or girlfriend; and domestic homicide is the leading cause of death among pregnant women.

The Center for Women and Families helps victims of intimate partner abuse or sexual violence to become survivors through supportive services, community education and cooperative partnerships that foster hope, promote self-sufficiency and rebuild lives. The Center has been serving the Kentuckiana community since 1912, when it began as part of the YWCA. Today it is a private nonprofit organization serving 11 counties and operating seven regional locations, three of which provide emergency shelter, transitional housing and/or long-term housing options.
