Wine, cheese and good art. What more do you need for a Friday night?
The Gallery at The Brown Hotel is hosting a wine and cheese reception on Friday, November 20 from 6 to 8 p.m. to celebrate the new exhibition showcasing artist Teresa Waller. The show will run until Friday, January 8 and feature Waller’s coveted combination of leaf and figure oil paintings and drawings.
“Illuminations” is Waller’s third solo show in two years and was inspired by the common motif of dramatic lighting that surrounds her many pieces. Waller says of her work that it is the light, shadow, form and color when the lighting is “just right” that causes her greatest reaction, and it is that moment that she wishes to capture and portray to the audience. Her subject matter varies from a woman in a vintage cocktail dress to a large-scale tobacco leaf, yet all of the pieces in this collection are joined by the dramatic and compelling uses of light and shadow.
The Gallery at The Brown Hotel features local artists quarterly to bring awareness to Louisville’s visual arts scene. It is located on the first floor of the hotel. The gallery is open Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Admission is free.
