Now Accepting Nominations for my Fall Cocktail

October 09, 2009

Booze

I enjoy having a different favorite cocktail for each season. I find that none of my usual fall favorites are doing for me this year though so I’m in search of Fall cocktail. Have you had a yummy cocktail at a fine Louisville establishment that’s just perfect for the cooler weather? Are you a bartender who’d like to invite me to try your latest seasonal creation? I’m listening and ready to bring a group of friends with me to taste.

If the Fall cocktail I choose is something original created by a local mixologist I’d love to have the creator do a guest post describing her/his master creation and its inspiration.

So, let’s hear the suggestions (and invitations!).

Hi Michelle: I’ve been trying vintage cocktails at home for about a year now. Here is one that I can’t seem to shake (no pun intended, honest). It’s called the Royal. According to my source (“Cocktail Hour” by Waggoner and Markel)it was popular at Hollywood’s Embassy Club. The cherry brandy is a good fall flavor. Makes me think of cherry pie at the holidays.
    ROYAL
    1 1/2 oz gin
    3/4 oz dry vermouth
    3/4 oz cherry brandy
Combine all in mixing glass with ice and stir (you’re not supposed to shake gin, they say). Strain into chilled cocktail glass and garnish with a lemon twist.
    Neat contest!
