I got a tip from Thomas that Ride the City has just started offering online bike route mapping for Louisville. I checked out the service and found it to be very cool. I also found it very cool that the only other three cities that Ride the City has maps for are New York, Chicago and Austin. That’s a kind of awesome list to be part of yes?
Turns out we have our mayor’s office to thank for getting us included in this project.
Although it’s well known as the home of the Kentucky Derby, Louisville is fast moving up the ranks of bicycle-friendly cities. Mayor Jerry Abramson, now in his second term, has committed to investing in the City’s bike infrastructure, seen most clearly in the ambitious plan called the Louisville Loop. This 100-mile paved trail will connect cyclists to parks and nearby counties to give bicyclists an improved transportation and recreational network. (Read more about Louisville and Mayor Abramson in Jeff Mapes’s book, Pedaling Revolution.)
Today we’re pleased to announce that Louisvillians have yet another resource for biking around town: Ride the City – Louisville! (A round of mint juleps, please.)
In June we started working with staff from Abramson’s office to put Ride the City – Louisville on the fast track. (This is the first city we’ve added because of an inquiry from city government, and we’re glad we did.)
