Bela_Flyer[1].pngBéla Fleck, Zakir Hussain & Edgar Meyer are playing at the Kentucky Center on Friday October 9, 2009 and I’ve got 2 pairs of tickets to give away.

“Three of the world’s most honored and acclaimed
musicians come together for one extraordinary evening of entertainment.
Béla Fleck’s take-no-prisoners banjo style, Edgar Meyer’s innovative,
eclectic approach to the double bass and Zakir Hussain’s
lightening-fast percussion come together for one phenomenal performance.

To enter to win just leave a comment or send an email telling us your favorite track that either of Fleck, Hussain or Meyer has ever played on. I’ll pick two winners at random from all the entries I receive by 4PM on Monday October 5, 2009.

I really like “Reflections of Lucy”, Bela’s reworking of “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” off the old Flecktones album “Flight of the Cosmic Hippo”.

  2. Carrie Bohnert Says:

One of my favorite songs in the world is One Winter’s Night from the Strength in Numbers album! That’s two out of the three musicians in this concert. Please please please I would love to have these tickets. Just had a baby and can no longer afford to buy tickets on my own!

  3. Jessica Stewart Says:

My favorite bluegrass track ever, which will be eternally remembered as the first dance for my wife and I at our wedding, is “The Over Grown Waltz”. The version I most prefer was performed at the Stawberry music festival in which Bela Flec performs with other legends such as Sam Bush (Kentucky’s very own), Jerry Green, Bryan Suttam and many more. Bela plays the banjo with such mesmerizing ease and fluidity that the instrument produces elegant sounds usually only associated with a violin.

  6. Rob Yoder Says:

This is a tough choice!! I’ve narrowed it down to two.
First would be Béla on his Live Art album – the Improv/Amazing Grace track. Whether it bears any religious meaning for you or not, it is an amazing riff track, full of wonderful, energetic runs and quiet, tender moments.
The second would be Edgar Meyer’s collaboration with Mark Conner and Yo-Yo Ma. A gently drifting beginning picks up with the summer breezes and carries us along on Butterfly’s Day Out.
To narrow down to a single favorite might be too hard, but I think I’m going to have to give the slight edge to Béla. I’ve been a huge fan for a long time, so he gets the nod.

  7. Angela Says:

I Really love Bella’s Christmas CD “Jingle All the Way”. He has a song on there called “Melody” which is just a fun, happy rendition of traditional xmas music. It makes me smile!

  8. Travis Cook Says:

I’d have to give my favorite as Armando’s Children, with Tony Trishcka, on the Double Banjo Bluegrass Spectacular album. Bela is amazing, but those two together are mind blowing.

  9. Matthew Landan Says:

saw each of them individually many times, would love to see them together.

tough call- tie between Big Country (agree with previous poster) and Zigeunerweisen from the Uncommon Ritual CD (Bela, Edgar, and Mike Marshall).
    Thanks for the contest!!!

  14. Kim Says:

Most definitely Edgar Meyer’s work with Mark O’Connor and Yo-Yo Ma on Appalachia Waltz, especially the title track from that album. It’s so beautiful and wistful and evocative. Absolutely gorgeous (wish I could get tickets to the Mark O’Connor concert but I have to work that night, boo!). My boyfriend and I are planning to go anyway (he loves Bela Fleck) but free tickets would be a help! :)
