I got an email from someone really excited about the new barber shop on Bardstown Road. Since it looks likes most of the services are for guys I’m probably not going to be dropping in anytime soon so let me just share the email directly since I can’t speak from personal experience.
new rock-n-roll, vintage barber shop on Bardstown Rd called Derby City Chop Shop. They mainly do cater to guys, but it’s the coolest and cleanest place in town as far as a barber shop is concerned. They do straight razors shaves, shoe shines and haircuts all while listening to songs/bands of the customer’s choosing (and often this occurs on a 1961 gorgeous jukebox!)
The description from Derby City Chop Shop’s Facebook group page is:
DCCS is Louisville’s only rock ‘n roll, little bit old school, little bit new school, full service barbershop. Haircuts, straight razor shaves, shoe shines, and more!
Sounds pretty cool to me.
I don’t have a high maintenance or dramatic haircut. If I hadn’t been loyal to the same hair person for the last dozen years I think I’d absolutely head to DCCS to give their haircuts a try. I might need to anyone cause “they’ve got that recession on” and barber shops are typically cheaper than hair salons.

I’ve been there twice already since they opened in August and I plan to keep going there. The guys are really nice and do a great job. Next time I think I will spring for the shave as well!

I had the best shave and a haircut of the year there. And it’s BYOB!

Another fine old-timey barber shop is St. Matthews / Hubbards Lane Barber Shop. Great cuts, $13 includes straight razor clean up. Facial massages, straight razor shaves, vibrator massages, etc. all available for reasonable costs.
