Carsharing in Louisville? It Could Happen

When we were in Seattle last year my friend Jhames mentioned that he uses Zip Car. When we in Chicago in May I walked by a Zip Car pick up location. So I knew exactly what he was talking about when Creighton wrote to me asking if I’d perhaps mention the Zip Car concept and encourage people to fill out a form indicating that you’d like to hear if/when Zip Car makes it to Louisville. So this is me doing just that. By filling out the form with a Louisville zip code you let them know that there are people here interested in the car sharing concept.

Do we have enough people interested in car sharing to get Zip Car here? I don’t know but I would certainly use it if we did. I would love to be able to move to being a one car family.

Cool concept. I don’t think it would suit our family’s needs here in Louisville – but I could totally see us using it next year when we go to Washington DC. We’ll be staying in Arlington and taking the Metro most days but a Zipcar would be a fantastic idea for a day when we’re driving out to Mt.Vernon.

Zipcar saved my life when I lived in DC. Love carsharing and this company in particular makes it fun and easy. What made it work so well though was having an alternative public transportation system like the metro to get you to most places. Zipcar just filled in the gaps and it also made the grocery trips a little easier. If carsharing were here when I first moved I don’t know if it and the bus would have been enough (I’m not city biking proficient yet) to get me to all the places I need/like to go easily.

On average I drive my Jeep 10 miles a week. But as my wife commutes to Frankfort every weekday, we need two cars. If Zipcar came to Louisville, I’d be able to sell the Wrangler, pocket a few grand, pay less for car insurance, and drive a car that pollutes less. Huge win.
