Community Involvement, Music

punktorahflyer.jpgI’m not really down with punk music since I’m old and boring but my friend Patrick is in a punk band and they’re playing at Derby City Espresso in a couple weeks. So that’s the first punk related thing I want to tell you about.

The second punk thing I want to tell you about is also related to my friend Patrick. In addition to being in a punk band he also runs a Jewish outreach website called Punk Torah. I’ma tell you straight out that Patrick is far, far more liberal than I am on a lot of things relating to Judaism and Jewish life but that’s what makes him and his Punk Torah program awesome. He’s doing religion, Judaism specifically, in his own, unique way filled with lots of passion and lots of commitment. That is beyond awesome. So my synagogue is bringing Patrick in to speak on Friday night August 14, 2009. We’re having traditional Friday night services, NYC style pizza from Luigi’s and then a Punk Torah talk from Patrick.

Though obviously this program is primarily of interest to Jewish folks I think if you’re interested in religion in general and religion being done in new and different ways then this program will offer something cool for you.
