One of the great things about living in Louisville is that we have so much farm land surrounding our metropolitan area, we have so many farmers in the rest of the state. That is to say we have a tremendous opportunity to actually buy a great deal of local food. This Saturday Rainbow Blossom is giving us the opportunity to meet a few more of the local food producers than we do every week at the Farmers Markets or the CSAs we participate in.
With foods commonly found in the American diet – things you and your family eat every day – typically traveling a staggering 1,500 miles from farm to plate, it’s no wonder that food transportation is one of the biggest and fastest-growing sources of greenhouse gas emissions world wide. Eating a regional diet is not only more nutritious and tasty, but can consume 17 times less oil and gas than the typical ‘cross country’ fair. By buying locally produced products you’re not only making a direct impact on critical issues such as global warming, but investing in our community.
The Tasting Fair is more than a great opportunity for your family to sample some of the many local products offered by Rainbow Blossom, it’s a chance to meet and get to know the people behind your food!
