Unlike when I went to Seattle last year it rained almost the entire time I was in Chicago. So I don’t have a ton of great Chicago shots to share with you but I do want to share a couple photos and briefly tell you about some great meals I ate and adventures I had.
First I need to say thank you to the proprietress of Poise.cc. She’s a friend of a friend who gave me great information about restaurants, shops and getting around on public transportation. Thanks are also due to Louisville native @karae who is now a Chicago dweller who also gave me great Chicago advice.
The Field Museum was, as always, one of the highlights of the trip. In addition to the standard natural history stuff there were two really wonderful though small photography exhibits currently running. One was a nature photography exhibit called, I think, from the Yukon to Yosemite. The other was focused on a Hindu religious festival which was really beautiful.
The Museum of Contemporary Photography is a really small space in the lobby of the Columbia College. From my understanding they have one themed exhibit at a time and they had just put up an exhibit about urban planning and its failures that I found really interesting. Like I said, it’s a tiny space but really worth the walk down Michigan Avenue and it’s free.
I had some really, really great vegetarian meals in Chicago from places like Green Zebra and The Chicago Diner but I must confess to you my favorite meals in Chicago were the multiple breakfasts I ate at the Bongo Room.
I walked around the city a lot and one afternoon stumbled upon a bulldog in an argyle sweater. That was pretty awesome.
