Wildflower Walks at Wolf Pen Branch Mill Farm

April 14, 2009

Nature, Outdoors

Wolf Pen Branch Mill Farm is a new one on me but I dig wildflowers. It’s one of my few very girly girl traits, so I think these walks so like great fun.

This year’s Wildflower Walks at Wolf Pen Branch Mill Farm are April
16, 17, 18 at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., and will be guided by an area
biologist with expertise in the exceptional collection of plant life on
the 412-acre property.  There are an amazing number of rare
wildflowers, as well as a federally-endangered species, Buffalo Running
Clover. The farm and the mill are forever preserved through a
conservation easement co-held by River Fields, Inc. and the Kentucky
Heritage Council.

The farm is owned by Sallie Bingham, noted
writer and founder of the Kentucky Foundation for Women. She donated
the conservation easement in 1997 so the property would remain
undeveloped and protected for future generations.

The walks
are open to the public.  We ask attendees who are not members of River
Fields
to donate $25 per family to help defray the costs of the walks,
which includes a year-long River Fields membership.

Reservations can be made by calling the River Fields office at (502) 583-3060, or by emailing  melodyraidy@riverfields.org.
