This is an original and cool event. I haven’t heard of anything like it in Louisville. It’s an awesome idea.
Vinyl is back. And with it comes “Vinyl in the ‘Ville,” a first-time event to celebrate the once-forgotten medium and bring together music lovers young and old who embrace the sound of analog and the glory days of album artwork. The free event will take place Thursday, April 16 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at ear X-tacy record store on Bardstown Road. The night will offer a chance for attendees to bring their favorite records for an “open turntable hour” that will allow them to take turns playing their personal favorites for the crowd. Several other turntable stations will also be set up around the store for personal listening.
Ear X-tacy will offer 20 percent off all vinyl purchases during “Vinyl in the ‘Ville.” Along with that discount, Louisville-based Crosley Radio, a manufacturer of retro-styled turntables and other consumer electronics, will offer chances to win one of six Crosley turntables with the purchase of vinyl. Plus, vinyl enthusiasts will also receive other free gear like T-shirts, records and food while supplies last.
Louisville Photographic Booth Company will also be there to snap “Sleeveface-style” photographs of attendees (fun photos in which record sleeves conceal parts of the body to give the illusion that the person is part of the album cover.)
