On the spot talking about random PowerPoint presentations? Nerdtastic and awesome. I’ve been giving so many presentations lately and working in Keynote (the Mac alternative to PowerPoint) so much lately I feel like I should be participating in this event. I’m not though but you can.
Hate public speaking? Hate sitting through PowerPoint presentations? You’ll change your mind about both when you see “PowerPoint Karaoke” brought to life by local members of Toastmasters, 5:30 – 8:00 p.m. March 13th at Gilda’s Club, 633 Baxter Avenue.
Even experienced public speakers will be at a loss when they’re asked to stand up in front of PowerPoint slides they’ve never seen before and give an impromptu presentation to the crowd. Audience members are welcome to laugh and yell out suggestions. The event is free and open to the public. It’s a unique networking opportunity, and a chance to see how much fun public speaking can actually be. PowerPoint Karaoke was invented by a German artists’ group in 2005.
Brave volunteers are welcome to “present,” along with members of the St. Matthews/ Lyndon Toastmasters Club made up of Kentuckiana professionals, students and others who are learning to sharpen their public speaking skills. Regular meetings of the Toastmasters club are at 6:45 a.m. Thursdays on the second floor of the Atria Building, 120 S. Hubbards Lane.
For information about the PowerPoint Karaoke event, please contact Whitney Bishop at 502.338.3780. Details about the local Toastmasters organization are available online at http://stmatthews.freetoasthost.com/.
My friend George kicks ass at this kind of thing so I’m going to show you his “Battle Decks” effort from SXSW last year. This will give you an idea of the kind of absurd humor and awesomeness to expect form this kind of event.
