I can’t recall if I’ve told you how much of a stationery and written correspondence nerd I am. If I haven’t, well, let me put it this way, the other day I twittered “Sometimes the best thing about receiving a gift is the thank you note you get to write in response.”
I love letters, cards, thank you notes, the whole lot. I’m such a snail mail dork, I even have several varieties of seals and sealing wax that I use. I also have a devoted stationery cabinet.
While I’ve been known to order stationery from the interwebs and visit stationery shops in every city I visit most of the cool folded and flat note cards I buy come from right here in town. So, in an effort to get you to send more real letters and cards, I thought I’d tell you abut my three favorite places to buy cards in Louisville.
1. The Makery
The Makery has a really nice selection of letterpessed, artist made and just down right clever and creative cards. All the holiday cards, save one, that we sent this year came from The Makery.

2. Sustain
A new edition to my stationery buying list but it’s a good one. This place used to be called SustainKids and, well, they only sold stuff for kids. They recently ditched the kids part of the name and diversified their inventory to include environmentally conscious and sustainable products for adults and kids. Amongst these new items are really beautiful recycled paper cards by Positively Green. Both the art and sentiment of these cards are beautiful. I bought several birthay and thank you cards the other day in giddy anticipation of being able to send them to special people.

3. Carmichael’s Bookstore
It only makes sense that a place dedicated to the written word would have a good selection of, um, stuff designed for you to write on. Good variety of flat and folded cards and a good mix of sappy and funny.
Now, go forth and send mail.

Thanks for this list. I definitely appreciate the dying art of sending cards and letters in the snail mail. I’m looking forward to checking out all three of these places.

I thought these places didn’t exist in Louisville. As an import to the Louisville area, it’s nice to know they are somewhere I just haven’t looked yet. Thanks!
