Radio Silence, Thanks and Good Wishes

December 23, 2008

narrative

I want to wish you a very peaceful and joyous end to 2008 and beginning to 2009. As years often do, this one surprised me and delighted me in many ways and challenged and disappointed me in others. I don’t yet know what I hope for in 2009 beyond a few basics (add more good to the world than I take, be kinder and more generous, read 45 books). I’m going to take a few days to think about that though.

charge.jpgI thank each of you for reading and supporting Consuming Louisville this year. Writing Consuming Louisville is a deep joy in my life and I hope I can continue to do it and do it well for a long time to come. I’m not whining here but I do want to share that sometimes it feels like so a great deal of work for a rather small return. But then I’ll get an email about the awesome time someone had at an event they found out about on Consuming Louisville and I get completely and totally re-energized and recharged. Or a business owner will tell me that people have found them because of Consuming Louisville and it will totally make my day because it makes me feel like I’m doing something good here. Doing good work does the spirit good.

So thank you not only for reading but also for the very kind emails and comments you send. Thanks also for supporting the local businesses and events that I write about. Our local businesses add so much to our community and they deserve our support.

I’ll be taking a few days off between now and New Year’s. If I find something really great to write about I’ll spring back up but it’s entirely possible I might not post again until 2009 has arrived. That’s why I wanted to write you today and say thank you for your support and wish you a safe, peaceful and joy filled transition from fall to winter* and from 2008 to 2009.

*I know solstice was a couple days ago but surely you’ll grant me poetic license won’t you?

I just wanted to say thank you. I stumbled upon your site earlier this year and it has quickly become a staple in my online diet. I love my hometown but I have found many very cool events and notes on here that I wouldn’t have known about otherwise. I look forward to what you’ll have posted next year!
    Have a good holiday!

Happy holidays! Thanks for all the good work you do.

  3. Tom Says:

And thanks to you for writing.

  4. Laura Says:

Thank you for writing this blog. In the past 6 months, it seems to have become my favorite source for info about all kinds of events in Louisville. Enjoy your holidays!

I wanted to add my thanks. I’ve only been reading the blog for a couple months but I’ve really come to enjoy it. I’m an out-of-state transplant who’s always looking for different, inexpensive things to check out and because of you I found some really cool $20 art work a couple weeks ago :) So again, thank you! And keep the events coming!

    Michelle,
Thank you, thank you, thank you for everything you do here and elsewhere to celebrate our town and to also draw attention to the various creative endeavors of your fellow Louisvillians.
Cosuming Louisville is a daily read for me and I mention it to friends as often as possible. I know the feeling when you think that it’s all for nothing but believe me, you’re helping a lot of people and doing the River City proud.
Keep up the good work in 2009.
    Mike

A different Laura than the one above, adding my voice to the chorus of praise for the work you do here. Your blog is so good, it makes me feel confident in not even attempting to do the same thing myself — how could I improve on this? Thanks, and looking forward to next year!

I just have to say that I stumbled on your blog several months ago and the way you highlighted all the cool, interesting, and fun things going on in Louisville, in an eloquent and humorous way, convinced me and my partner that moving from Chicago would be an enriching and exciting experience. Although I grew up in Louisville, in the Highlands, I moved away twenty years ago, and didn’t realize how much the city has changed, and yet how many of the good things are still there– your blog really did make a difference to us. We’ll soon be happily living in a cool old house in Old Louisville, looking forward to reading on your site what we should try next.
    Happiest of new years!

I have your site on google reader and check it out every few days. I’m living in New York so this has been a good way to see what’s happening at home.
