You’ve got a chance to help Jefferson Memorial Forest get $5,000 to go toward trail improvement and all it takes is you voting online.
Save the Trails, in cooperation with the National Trails Fund, will award $5,000 trail revitalization grants to the 10 communities that receive the most online votes. Nineteen other communities were selected along with Louisville as finalists out of a competitive pool of 160 non-profit organizations located throughout the nation.
This a super easy way to support Jefferson Memorial and
while that should be reward enough I want to make sure you’ve got a
little more incentive. So, in in addition to that warm, fuzzy feeling
you get after you’ve voted come back here and enter to win one of the following prizes:
- One free group camp site rental at Jefferson Memorial Forest;
- One free public program of winner’s choice [admit two] at Jefferson Memorial Forest
Now, I have no way of knowing if you’ve actually voted or not but I have confidence that Consuming Louisville readers are awesome people. Therefore I’m sure that not only will you not enter until you’ve voted but also sure that you’re going to encourage your friends, family and twitter followers to vote as well. Y’all are some good people and I love you for it.
Just so we’re all on the same page let me recap. To vote all you have to do is visit http://www.wheresyours.com/SaveTheTrailsVote.aspx and click the big green vote button by the Jefferson Memorial Forest – Key Connection Trail entry. If we wind up in the top ten when voting is over on October 31(which I know we will with your help) Jefferson Memorial Forest will get a $5,000 grant. What are they going to do with the money?
With the National Trails funding, Metro Parks officials plan to build approximately 2.5 miles of new trails at the Forest. The Forest’s trails will ultimately connect to the Louisville Loop, a 100-mile paved path being developed through the Mayor’s City of Parks initiative.
This sounds like a very worthy project to me and I sincerely hope you’ll do your part to help Jefferson Memorial get this grant money. Our parks, including Jefferson Memorial, are such a great asset for
Louisville. I think it’s great we have a chance to do something so
simple to help. If you want to do more to help I know for a fact that
Metro Parks, including Jefferson Memorial is always looking for
volunteers.
To enter the contest for prizes just leave a comment or send an email indicating if you’re interested in a specific prize or if you’re open to winning either prize. I’ll choose one random winner for each prize from the entries I receive by 10PM on Friday October 31. Good luck and thanks for doing your part to support Jefferson Memorial. I’ll send an email to everyone who enters advising them of the voting outcome when the winners are announced.

I voted too, hated to vote against the other projects. In my mind they are all worthwhile and I wish they could all get funding. Not worried about a prize so either one is fine if I happen to be chosen.

I voted too! Louisville is so fortunate to have awesome parks and forests…esp. Jefferson Memorial.
Love it there! I would like to win prize #1!

I LOVE the trails at Jefferson Memorial Forest and have made some great camping trips out there with the boy scouts. It is absolutely worthy of winning this prize because they are always strapped for cash out there.
And, speaking of which… I’m told that if there are groups (like girl scout and boy scout troops and other community organizations) that like to do volunteer work, they are always happy to help with that. I believe if your group expresses an interest in helping them out, the ranger out there can work out a convenient and appropriate way to do that that fits with the group.
