Reminder: Five0Two Party This Weekend at The Green Building

This is a reminder about the party our friends at the Five0Two are throwing this weekend at The Green Building. It’s going to be a perfect way to cap off all the IdeaFest thinking.

Five0Two exists to support Louisville artists in producing artwork that expresses their love for Louisville.

Over the past nine months we’ve collected some great work – and we
want to show it off for everyone to see. If you love Louisville, art,
and a party, come to a place where you can do all three at once.

Live music performed by Southside.
DJ’d by Jason Clark
Food/hooch catered.

It was cool to see the building and great to run into you and B there, but the art show itself left me a little cold; basically the only stuff in the show was already shown in the postcard, and I found it odd that all of the works were presented as CMYK print-outs (no real paintings, drawings, 3-D). Any of the dozens of designs being sold at WHY Louisville could’ve also been welcome additions to the show.
Also, I think the building owners are being pretty pretentious to call it “THE Green Building,” as if there have been none before it and there will be no more after it in this city. I applaud their LEED certification and think it’s a beautiful space, but it certainly could’ve been even more green (the hundreds of sheets of brand-new plywood wall covering kind of made me cringe, even if it is “sustainably-harvested” or whatever). It’s a great first step for a city that has an awfully long way to go to lower its impact and I’m excited to see more similar projects demonstrate the same growing sensitivity.

It was great to see you all as well. Let’s try to get together for dinner sometime soon.
I like the…chutzpah of calling it THE Green Building. I think it’s almost like a friendly challenge to others in the area. Like, ok this is what we’ve done, now what are you going to do?
Regarding the show, hmm, well I hadn’t thought about it that way. I know The Five0Two project operates pretty much on a shoestring budget and I applaud what they’re doing wholeheartedly so I’m not going to complain too much about their efforts. I’m not sure why the originals weren’t included in the show, other than some pieces were huge and would have dwarfed some of the others. I don’t know if that was a factor in making all the works prints or not. I understand not featuring works from The WHY store or anywhere else as the project is focusing on one work from one artist at a time.
Bill Green, Ashley Cecil and Ron Whitehead I know of course but the other artists that have been featured were completely new to me so I’m really pleased to have had one piece from each of them to use as a starting point to getting to know that particular artist.
