A while back I told you about The Cupcake Shoppe coming to St. Matthews now I can tell you that the shop is officially open for business. B and I drove by on Saturday afternoon (after a trip to Target) found the shop open and naturally had to stop and indulge. We bought four different cupcakes (what? It was research for you all, not greediness on my part) to get a feel for The Cupcake Shoppe’s style and how they approach different flavors.
According to a flyer I picked up the shop features 9 flavors everyday (though they were sold out of a couple when we went) plus two daily specials and one monthly special. The 9 everyday flavors include your normal chocolate and vanilla variations plus a mint chocolate offering, carrot cake, red velvet, key lime and banana chipped.
We tried
The Blondie: Vanilla bean cupcake and vanilla bean buttercream
Love Match: Vanilla bean cupcake with sweet chocolate buttercream
Red Ville-Vet: Red velvet cupcake with cream cheese icing
Banana Chipped: Banana and chocolate chip cupcake with cream cheese icing and topped with mini chocolate chips
Of those four cupcakes the Banana Chipped was the hands down winner. Very moist cupcake with bits of banana and chocolate inside. The cream cheese icing was neither too sweet nor too tangy and the mini chocolate chips were a very nice touch. I’d order this cupcake again without question. I was also particularly fond of the chocolate buttercream icing found on the Love Match cupcake.
We didn’t try any of the flavors of the day or the month since neither Coconut Ball nor Raspberry Ripple nor Rocky Road Ahead appeal to me. However I’m seriously ready for them to start offering Pumpkin Patch (pumpkin cupcake with cream cheese icing and cinnamon sugar sprinkles) as a monthly special.
When you go by for cupcake goodness please do be sure to tell them that Consuming Louisville sent you.
While the owners of The Cupcake Shoppe were very smart to buy the domain name LouisvilleCupcakes.com it appears they don’t actually have a site in place yet. Since their site isn’t up and running yet let me give you a little information about their prices and policies. This info is accroding to the brochure available at the shop on September 19, 2008.

I have heard lots of good things about the cupcake shoppe. Being a die hard cupcake lover, I cannot contain myself any longer and plan to pay a visit today. I’ll be back to recap my cupcake experience.
