I know where I’ll be the 23rd. I hope there are potato pancakes. Nom nom nom.

We attended the Volkfest Saturday evening and all I can say was it was a major let-down. The area was relatively small and it felt as though we were a bunch of teens being segregated from the general population at a church picnic. The beer was served in a cheesy plastic mug that was straight out on 1985. I have no doubt the beer itself was great (I love BBC) but we weren’t there long enough to justify the cost.
The band was decent and there were a few nice booths for local interest groups like 8664.
My biggest complaint was the food. It was a joke. The only ‘German’ offering we saw were brats. The other choices were pulled pork and a couple other non-German items (i swear i think one booth had chips and salsa). How can you have an Oktoberfest without basic German fare? I was skeptical beforehand when they chose O’Sheas to host an Oktoberfest, and unfortunately my suspicions were concerned. I cook German food at home all the time. It’s not that hard to produce. The organizers really dropped the ball on that front.
We stayed about 5 minutes and left. I will be very surprise if we hear about a ’second annual’ Volkfest next year.

The Volkfest was hugely popular and my friends and I had a great time drinking really good beer. I’m sure there’ll be another one next year.
